SOCIAL MEDIA BASICS
One day workshop
This one-day workshop is the foundational workshop for the Social Media Management Series™. It explores how organizations are using the social web to achieve business goals. It will get you actively involved in using popular social media tools through practicing some key tactical activities: listening, connecting, contributing, communicating and community-building.
You will have a computer during the workshop for exploring the social web and for hands-on learning and application of the tools. You will leave the workshop with a basic understanding of social media concepts and the culture of the social web.
This workshop does not specifically address planning a social media strategy or social media measurement, but provides the basis for those topics in related in-depth workshops, Building a Social Media Strategy and Social Media Measurement and Success Metrics.
Workshop Objectives:
- Learn the defining characteristics of the social web and social media.
- Interact comfortably with various social media tools for listening, connecting, contributing, communicating, and building community.
- Comfortably use Web 2.0 terminology.
- Evaluate appropriate social media tools for specific activities and business goals.
- Understand the interplay and importance of social media in online search.
- Make decisions about the appropriateness of social media to the organization or a specific goal.
Workshop Frame-of-mind: The social web is characterized by "everything is sharable," is powered by very simple and free online publishing tools, and has changed long-held principles of communication and business building. Customers, employees and all stakeholders have new demands and expectations of organizations for every kind of business and market activity. Everyone needs to be literate in social media and the online culture that is defining so much of today's business environment.
How is this workshop different from the Social Media Introduction workshop?
Social Media Basics is only one day. It does not address any level of creating social media strategies or measurement. Introduction is a survey workshop, introducing concept from all five workshops in the Social Media Management Series. Basics is the beginning or foundation workshop for the in-depth classes in the rest of the Social Media Management Series.
