Social Media literacy defined:
The skills to operate effectively in modern digital environments.
Put another way, social media literacy is demonstrating and using skills to get things done in digital (virtual) places.
At Modern Media Leadership Institute, we've been studying these skills for more than a two decades as they have been evolving - and as digital media has been evolving.
We keep our eye on the workplace landscape. Currently there more than 30 unique job titles demanding social media leadership expertise. These require 120 distinct digital skills (competencies). Our training curriculum is aimed squarely at developing these specific skills, and designed to meet specific success profiles constructed for social media positions.
Ten Sample Social Media Competencies:
- Identify the traits and characteristics of the most popular social media channels, platforms and tools.
- Choose appropriate media types for expression of specific content or an idea
- Develop and explain a social media response framework.
- Develop a structured social media strategy mapped to organizational and communication goals.
- Manipulate RSS feeds.
- Evaluate a social tool, channel or platform for its appropriate use in a business environment.
- Develop a personal learning network.
- Tap remote experts.
- Manage and create status in connected spaces.
- Influence business outcomes through online activities.
